Thursday Threads: Palm Beach Palms

I am a jet setter once again! OK, so its only Florida but I count anywhere with palm trees as a tropical escape.

Palm Beach is gorgeous as ever, but HOT. I have learned to keep my clothing light and simple:

My sand dollar necklace was the only accessory I wore for the entire trip and I lived in these “Marnie” sandals:

I am becoming more Floridian with each trip!

Caribbean Style

Happy Tuesday!  I just got back from a fantastic week in Antigua! Gear whisked me away to ring in the big 3-0 island style (more on our trip coming later this week) 🙂

I was phone-free 90% of the time, but couldn’t resist snapping some pics of my Caribbean wear.

Goal #1: Fresh-faced and makeup free

Goal #2:  Low-key comfort

Stores Represented: Target | Marshall’s | Forever 21 | Kohl’s | Swimsuits For All

It was refreshing to spend the week in a bathing suit and without the hassle of going through a daily hair/makeup routine. My summer goal is to commit to a more minimalist beauty regimen!

Fantastic food. 70 degrees and sunny. Not a bad way to spend the work week!

You Better Work

9 degrees in Boston means a Florida inspired #flashbackfriday

Working out during business trips can be tough. The indoor gyms of most hotels are cramped and don’t inspire much motivation to break a sweat, and depending on where you are your outdoor exercise options can vary.

Thankfully, my last trip to Florida I had some great weather and could run outdoors. I wasn’t sure where I was going but was told there was a marina about 1.5 miles from where I was staying. Perfect!

Taking time during travel to be active helps keep my mind clear and my health goals in check. I am headed back to Florida next week and can’t wait to see where my running shoes take me next 🙂

Wardrobe Wed: Fire & Ice

Happy Wednesday from sunny Florida! One of the perks of my new job is that I have the pleasure of traveling to the sunshine state. Nothing better than escaping the Boston chill with a quick trip to Miami and Naples 🙂

80 degrees and sunny means that I can break out my sleeveless blouses and pack a cardigan *just in case* it gets too cool. In HEAVEN!

Today I am fully representing BU’s colors with a red and white geometric sleeveless blouse (with a white beaded neckline) paired with a simple black pencil skirt. I finished the look with a black patent leather belt and nude pumps.

It’s a pretty normal day for Joy today.  In student affairs what is normal really?!  Meeting with lots of students during appointments, assisting the drop-in students as quickly as possible.. is that it today? Joy stepped a little out of her usual solid color pallet and went with a print chiffon Ann Taylor blouse.  Joy Loves this particular print because the cream and brown floral design is set against a black background so she can still wear her favorite black slacks from Lord & Taylor.

I promise to try and bring back as much warmth to New England as possible!

Stowe, VT in a Nutshell

It’s hard to put an entire vacation into one post so I thought to myself, “What better way than to let the pictures do the talking?”

I present to you… Stowe, VT: A Photo Journey

The entire trip was fantasically filled with outdoor adventures, great local breweries, and all kinds of foods. Can’t wait to make a return trip next year!

Wardrobe Wed: Up North & Down Under

Joy and I are both on holiday but in two VERY different locations! I am spending a few days in the mountains of Stowe, VT with Gear for some much needed R&R.

Today my schedule consists of horseback riding and booze – not a bad way to spend the day! Knowing I would be outside for most of the day on a farm, I opted for rugged layers.

I sported black leggings with black winter boots, a grey t-shirt layered with a mint green cable knit sweater (American Eagle) and my Kelly green fleece jacket (North Face).

Left: Ready to ride!  Right (top): My handsome date, Ike 🙂 Right (bottom): A maroon knit head scarf with floral accent kept my ears nice and warm on the trail.

Joy is on holiday in Australia!  Since the weather is sunny and in the 80s she can break out the maxi dresses while sightseeing.  Today she is spending part of today escaping the high noon heat at Madame Tussauds, Sydney’s wax museum.  A navy and white pattern Vince Camuto maxi dress is perfect for lunch overlooking the Darling Harbour and playing tourist.

Joy is having a blast catching up wtih all her closest friends like Ryan Gosling at the museum 😉

Wardrobe Wed: Bold Patterns

This week I am on a business trip to NH and today kicks off my trek up to the granite state. Knowing I would be spending most of the day in my car to/from/ in between alumni visits I wanted to be comfortable but appropriate. For this chilly day, I went with my cream and black striped long sleeve dress from the Gap (a fall favorite). Its thick cotton fabric gives structure and warmth – perfect for hopping in and out of the car.

I paired with my …me Too Shoes kitten heels and a tan patent leather belt. With this busy pattern I went jewelry free. Stay tuned for a full post on my NH travels and packing light 101.

Easy, breezy, beautiful!

This is a pretty quiet week for Joy, nothing special or out of the ordinary going on at work.  Today Joy has a typical work day, back to back meetings with students and then dinner with the girls. Since Joy is going from her desk to dinner she paired a black and brown floral print Ann Taylor Loft dress with black tights and riding boots. Perfect for work and sharing a plate of nachos and laughs with her girlfriends.

My little piece of Florence

One benefit of your parents traveling to incredible destinations all over the world (aside from constantly inspiring their children to never stop exploring) is that they almost always come back with souvenirs.

Like a fine wine, the gifts get better with age. They evolve from the classic t-shirt and figurines (which now go to the grandchildren) to unique jewelry, spices, and clothing.

Their latest trip to Croatia, Venice, Pompeii, Versailles, and Florence (trip of a lifetime right!?) brought back this hand-made italian fleece poncho. Whaaaaaat?!

My Darling!

That collar. To.Die.For

Ponchos are very on trend this season and if anyone knows fashion, is Italy. I wanted to wear her immediately, but the weather these past few weeks has not been cooperative so I patiently waited…until day.

It’s 50 degrees and chilly – the PERFECT day to break in my little piece of Florence. I took some liberties with “casual Friday”, and paired the poncho with a long sleeve shirt, simple black leggings and my brown mid-calf riding boots by Naturalizer.

Nothing says "casual" like a messy bun. No judgement. It's all about the poncho afterall.

Enjoy that messy bun. Afterall,  it’s all about the poncho.

My office has been warned: this poncho will be making frequent appearances throughout the fall and winter!
